Pune: The Army Institute of Technology (AIT) has started a robotic and automation engineering stream and increased the intake for information technology (IT) course to 60 seats in this academic year.
AIT is the only dedicated engineering college for Army wards in the country.
Brigadier Abhay Bhat (retd), AIT director, told TOI, “Robotics automation and IT have a huge scope in private and dedicated defence industries.We have taken the step considering the rapid growth in these sectors in future.”
Over the years, the college has increased the intake of students from 300 to 480, responding to high demand for engineering seats. The institute connects with leading companies, start-ups, and other industrial organisations that help them understand industrial trends and their operational requirements.
“We have created a dedicated infrastructure, including labs for students to enhance their skills,” added Bhat.
“AIT has decided to tie up with some companies to provide platforms to our students to work on projects,” said an AIT official.
Students are also working for Southern Command’s Regional Technology Node (RTN) to find military solutions for complex operational requirements of the armed forces.
