The Privately ‘AgeAI’ app is being used in partnership with Our Vape Advocacy (OVA) as a way to help perform age checks to eliminate a reliance on guesswork. The app uses a 100% anonymous functionality that doesn’t transmit or store images and could help to reduce the need for ID checks amongst adults to provide a more frictionless retail experience. The app will be used to help retailers mitigate the risks associated with underage vape sales that come with fines potentially in excess of £1,500.
CEO Deepak Tewari spoke on the Privately ‘AgeAI’ app for OVA members saying, “The vape industry is a highly fragmented sector and under massive scrutiny right now, and there’s an urgent need to clamp down on underage sales. OVA members will now be assured they have an automated, accurate and speedy solution that means store staff can avoid the confrontation that comes from requests for ID and turning people away.”
